The mean concentration of serum HDL-cholesterol was signifi-cantly higher, while that of hepatic triglyceride concentration was significantly lower in the Hijiki diet group, than in the control group. The mean concentrations of serum triglycerides, serum total cholesterol, serum glucose, cecal short chain-fatty acids were higher in the Hijiki diet group than those in the control group. The mean concentration of hepatic total cholesterol was lower, while the mean wet weights of cecum and colon contents were higher, in the Hijiki diet group than those in the control. The mean weight of testes of the Hijiki diet group was significantly higher than that of the control. These results suggest that Hijiki may have some effects on lipid metabolism in the rat.
